New Album Releases
Side Note – as this is the first Saturday Sound, a few new album releases are from recent weeks and not just the past week**
Gorillaz – Humanz
Gorillaz released their long-awaited and much-anticipated new album Humanz last Friday, with tracks featuring artists such as Rag’n’Bone Man. Gorillaz have taken a different artistic stance with this release, moving away from the quirkiness into the mainstream ‘club’ sound and having less of the signature ‘Gorillaz’ vocalists and vocal style.
Steps – Tears On The Dancefloor
Steps released their comeback album Tears On The Dancefloor and I was pleased to hear they have kept the signature ’90s sound. Every song will give you that sense of nostalgia and you’ll feel right at home with the typical 90s beats, synth strings and piano. It’s a solid, safe release and it’s at the no.2 spot on the UK album chart this week!
Asgeir – Afterglow
Asgeir creates solid chill-out music with his soft vocals and gentle timbre with the instrumentation chosen, and this album is no different. Perfect for having as background music or for generally creating a calming mood. If you haven’t heard Asgeir, check out his cover of Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana!
Pond – The Weather
Pond are a combination of 2010 Indie and 1960s-1970s Psychedelic Rock music. They utilise synthesisers and heavily edit the vocalist to give the sort of space-vibe Bowie and other psychedelic musicians used back in the day. The Weather appears to be another solidly weird album by them, not quite as powerful sound-wise as Hobo Rocket which was what initially got me into them.
Other releases include: Lethal Bizzle – You’ll Never Make a Million From Grime, Mac Demarco – This Old Dog, Kasabian – For Crying Out Loud. DAMN (Kendrick Lamar) came out earlier in November but I can recommend giving it a listen.
Last week, Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson’s song Symphony was at the no.1 spot on the Official UK charts singles chart, with Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You at no.2. This week, Symphony is at no.2, Shape of You is at no.3 and DJ Khaled’s collaboration with Justin Bieber, Quavo, Lil Wayne, and Chance the Rapper, I’m The One is at the no.1 spot.
Sheeran is still top dog with the no.1 spot on the album chart with Divide, and the names in the top 5 are largely the same as last week, with the addition of Gorillaz’ new release Humanz at the no.2 spot.
Billboard’s Alternative Chart
Billboard have an alternative chart where they figure out which ‘alt’ songs have been the most popular that week, ranked by airplay. This week, Imagine Dragons are at the no.1 spot with Believer. If you want to check out the whole top 40 list on the alternative chart, here’s the link.
A student at the University of Kent is putting on a FREE interactive fashion and live music instillation, mostly aimed at women. Special guest Phiney Pet will be exhibiting some of her signature jackets at the event (her designs have been worn by celebrities such as Miley Cyrus), and will even be running workshops allowing you to illustrate your own designs on a jacket! This event will be held at The Deep End, Chatham, Medway, Kent. If you’re interested, click here for the Facebook event. Hope to see some of you there!

Next Week for carysmegansound
I will be at the O2 on Friday 12th to finally see John Mayer! Unfortunately tickets for this event sold out as soon as they were released so there’s little chance you’ll get a ticket now.
