Throwback Thursday – Independent Woman Pt.1

Throwback Thursday

Since last night I was at an event celebrating feminism and empowerment, I thought I’d pick a song to reflect that. Yes, feminism is all about equality, but I don’t see a problem with the song meaning Independent Wo(MAN) too!

Independent Woman was written for use in the Charlie’s Angels film released in the same year (2000). The song was meant to make the listener feel empowered as an individual and it was apparently written after Beyoncé had an argument with her boyfriend.

Independent Woman achieved the no.1 spot on the UK singles chart (Official Charts) for 1 week before being knocked off by S Club 7’s Never Had A Dream Come True. They also achieved the no.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100!
